Obituary

Tom Gipson of Decherd, TN passed away on Nov 4, 2026 at his home with two of his brothers present. He was born in Kentucky in Dec 1954 to Anna and Buford Gipson. In 1963 the family moved to Hawaii, where they lived until 1967, when they returned to Decherd.

Tom had a great love and knowledge of old farm engines and trucks. He was more fulfilled and satisfied when using an old lawnmower or cultivator he had restored than brand new equipment. He spent countless hours searching the internet to find elusive parts. Tom was persistent and would search for months or years to find parts to restore unique equipment. He used this equipment to garden and mow, but also to exhibit the equipment working at tractor shows where he won multiple awards.

Tom used this old equipment to grow gardens of vegetables, sunflowers, and old varieties of wildflowers. He enjoyed working in the garden, eating its bounty, and seeing the beauty of the flowers. Tom also loved old TV shows and movies. He was a wiz at trivia about old movies, movie stars, and musicians.

Above all else, Tom loved his family and friends. He was steadfast in his dedication and commitment to them. He especially loved his nieces and nephew.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his aunts and uncles, and several cousins. He is survived by his sisters, Theresa (Mike) of Winchester, Cathy (Randy) of Murfreesboro; and brothers, Denis of Decherd, Robert of Winchester, and Joe of Knoxville. He is also survived by nieces, Amberly and Emma, and nephew, Dalton, all of Knoxville, along with many cousins and good friends.
