Obituary

Gloria Lee Stanford Krantz Scarlett, age 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior Peacefully on January 7, 2026, at her residence with her only child, David Leland Krantz standing beside her, Gloria's daughter-in- law, Rita Weddington Krantz seated beside her and holding her hand and neighbor and caregiver, Diane Mervyn praying over Gloria.

Gloria lived with David and Rita since December 6, 2025 after sustaining a stroke September 2025 and a second in October 2025. Previous to this, Gloria lived at Villa Maria Manor in Nashville, TN, since her retirement in 2006, form the University of the South, Sewanee, TN, in the School of Theology.

Gloria was born on July 11, 1941 in Orange, New Jersey to James Leland Stanford, Sr and Charmion Morris Stanford. Soon after the family moved to N.E. Ohio where Gloria was raised.

Gloria raised her only child David as a single parent from David's birth until his graduation from high school and his entry into the United States Army. Gloria worked tirelessly, often 2 jobs, to provide for David. Gloria instilled a deep love and appreciation for music and the arts into David. As a classically trained pianist herself and her father a jazz trumpet player, David was always surrounded by music, as David's grandfather was a father figure in his life.

Gloria guided David into school bands, choirs and acting. Gloria and David, in his high school years, sang in Messiah Chorus together for a few years. At this same time, they acted in Broadway Musicals together: CABARET, Gloria as Liza Minelli, with David as Joel Grey and SOUTH PACIFIC, Gloria was Bloody Mary, with David as Luther Billis.

Gloria continued on with music by playing on campus of the University and her "MUSIC WITH GLORIA" in Nashville, TN: bringing joy to residents in nursing homes on the holidays and in the recreation room at Mary Queen of Angels and Villa Maria Manor in Nashville, TN.

Gloria attended Faith Lutheran Church, Tullahoma, TN, Barth Vernon United Methodist Church, Nashville, TN, Belle Meade United Methodist Church, Nashville, TN and finishing with St. Anns Catholic Church, Nashville, TN.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, James Leland Stanford, Sr. and Charmion Morris Stanford, her husband Alfred Scarlett and cousin William Jones.

Gloria is survived by her only child, David Leland Krantz (Rita); brother, James Leland Stanford, Jr (Deb); soulsister, Ellen Allmon (David's Godmother); 4 grandchildren, Noah, Jacob, John and Jordan and too many hearts of individuals touched by Gloria during her Journey of 84 years, to mention.

Gloria's brother, Jim states: Gloria is survived by, on her brothers side, 2 nephews and 1 niece, 11 grand nieces and nephews, and 1 great grand nephew. Jim further states: Gloria was a much loved friend and confidant, who brought a sense of wit, compassion and humor to any occasion. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure and privilege to know her. Rest in peace my wonderful sister.

Gloria's cousin, Nancy Bridges states: Gloria had a rare gift, playing the piano by ear and whenever our family gathered, that music became the glue that held us together. Those melodies filled the room with joy, laughter and love and they brought us closer in a way words never could. The joy and connection her music gave us will live on in all of our hearts forever.

Gloria's cousin, Bob Jones states: Gloria was a cherished cousin and friend. She loved to laugh and brought joy easily into the lives of others around her. Kind and deeply caring, she was always willing to uplift others, often through her music and her beautiful piano playing. Gloria told it like it was, she expressed her feelings and appreciation openly and sincerely. Her warmth, honesty, and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed.

Gloria's Soul Sister, Ellen Allmon states: My dear friend in the whole world for 65 years, I'll surely miss you not being there to give me advice and correct me when I make wrong decisions.

Gloria also leaves behind four men, she grew in friendship with, as good people and respected their friendship and loyalty to her only son David: Cory Walls, Joe McGough, Ilmar Haller and Mike Shack.
