GEORGE DAVID POWERS, SR., age 83, of Decherd, Tenn., departed this life on Tuesday, December 17, at his residence with his loving family at his side.  Mr. Powers was born in Decherd, Tenn., on February 16, 1941, to the late John Clint Powers and Vera Ellen Jernigan Powers.  He was employed in the trucking industry for over 50 years, first as a truck driver and most of his working years as a diesel mechanic, with the Anthony Marano Company in Illinois. He was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church in Winchester.  Mr. Powers liked working in his garden most of all he liked working with his chickens. He would raise his chickens to give away to other people wanting to start their own coops. He enjoyed fishing, and camping with his family. Most of all Mr. Powers loved his family and spending time with them.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him especially his loving family.  He will be remembered as a "Giant of a Man".

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Betty Sue Powers of Decherd, son, George David Powers, Jr. of Decherd, daughters,  Jennifer Norwood and husband, Brian of Decherd, Robbie Bradford and husband, Jerod of Estill Springs, Grandchildren, Emma Sue Norwood-Spray and husband Dustin of Murfreesboro, Noah Norwood of Decherd, David Bradford and wife, Malorie of Winchester, Merri Grace Bradford, Christian Bradford all of Estill Springs.  Several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Powers will be held from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Friday, December 20, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services.

A Graveside service will be conducted following the visitation on Friday at 2:30 P.M. at Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd with Bro. Ray Gardner, officiating.
