Obituary

LUTHER DAVID WELLS, age 84, of Decherd, Tenn., departed this life on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at STRHS Winchester following a brief illness.  He was born July 30, 1938 in Flintville, Tennessee to the late Roy Leon and Rossie Lee Wells.

He graduated from Flintville High School in 1956, and married the first love of his life, Geneva Faye Wells, from Huntland, Tenn. In 1961.  From this union with Faye his daughters Kimberly Renee Wells and Wendy Faye Wells were born. The family were faithful members of the Winchester Church of Christ. David committed himself to be a provider with his young family working as an electrician in Huntsville and then for over 25 years at Arnold Engineering Development Center at the Engine Test Facility.  He demonstrated his commitment to Faye and his daughters by also managing his own electrical wiring business off hours from AEDC and after 'retiring' from AEDC in 2000. If you have been in Franklin County for over a month, you likely have been provided lighting by David's handiwork.

David was blessed to meet the second love of his life, Ellen Mason, after the passing of Faye.  After their marriage, he enjoyed spending time with Ellen gardening, cheering on the Atlanta Braves to a World Series Championship, and walking their four-legged best friends, Cash and Abby.  At the beginning of the pandemic, the challenges to David and Ellen were multiplied when he had a leg amputated.  With determination and the assistance of many angels called physical therapist, he learned to walk on a prosthetic leg and regain his independence with a smile behind a COVID mask.

David was also preceded in death by his sister, Mattie Helen White. In addition to Ellen, Kim (Steve Arnold), and Wendy, he is survived by grandchildren; Katherine Arnold, Lauren Arnold, Macey Krauth, and Jake Krauth of Winchester.  He is also survived by sister, Betty Lou Bailey of Fayetteville, Tenn., and nephews Mark Bailey of Washington State, Alan Bailey of Shelbyville and Lynn Bailey of Colorado.

Visitation for Mr. Wells will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services.  Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 12, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Bro. Joseph Horton, and Bro. Ray Gardner, officiating.  Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Winchester Christian Academy ( https://www.winchesterchristianacademy.org/ ), Animal Harbor of Winchester ( https://www.animalharbor.org/ ), or Nashville Amputee Blade Runner ( https://www.facebook.com/AmputeeBladeRunners/ ), an organization dedicated to providing advanced prosthetic limbs to young people in need.
