Obituary

Cheryl "Helluvagal" Schur (aka Roxanne the Rowdy, Pirate Queen) has set sail on her final voyage into the great horizon. She was adventurous, unapologetically brazen, and a profound collector of oddities. She fancied the pirate lifestyle of discovering and collecting new and curious wonders of this beautiful world, mostly by happenstance. She craved to be in the presence of the vast and sprawling ocean, full of secrets and possibilities. She loved having sand in between her toes, listening to the crashing waves, the smell of salty sea air, the song of the gulls, and the majestic beauty of sunrises and sunsets that painted the sky with a full palette. Always the enigma, she was not fond of the 'being on a boat' part. She regularly attended the Blackbeard pirate invasions of Beaufort, SC and Hampton Roads, VA and once attended the meeting of Pirate Lords in Memphis, TN.

As amazing of a buccaneer as she was, she was an even more loving and devoted mother. Her maternal instinct expanded far beyond just that of her daughter and son. Hers was the home of frequent parties and get-togethers, snow days well spent, lake outings, fort building and a safe place for her kids and their friends to engage in general shenanigans. It was commonplace for her bonus children to join us on trips and outings. She encouraged us all to experience new cuisines, arts, cultures and ideologies. She ensured we all had a wide array of experiences due to her world-mindfulness which she developed as a well-traveled military brat. However, it was also especially important for her to put down roots and find a place she could call 'home'.

She was passionate about helping both people and animals in need. She was intuitive when it came to people in need. More times than not, she worked behind the scenes to ensure those down on their luck had a warm meal, clean clothes, a place to sleep, or simply a phone call to check on them, letting them know someone still cared. She intended to somehow work with Blue Monarch, a local organization whose mission aligned strongly with her own of helping struggling mothers get back on their feet. In her earlier years, she worked with the Humane Society, caring for countless critters until they were placed in their 'furever' homes. More recently, she supported Ziggy's Tree Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Over the span of her amazing and ostentatious life, she encountered her share of storms, both mentally and physically. She saw worth in seeking help for mental health which allowed her to manage some of the demons she battled. In closing, we feel that she would want us to state the following (as, again, she deeply cared about people): If you feel that you need help, consider talking to a mental health professional. If you know someone in need of help, be supportive. "Many folks need mental health care but do not seek it for fear of being labeled or being thought less of." You owe it to yourself and your loved ones. If you are breathing, it is not too late to seek help or guidance.

She is survived by her husband, Nathan Schur, Son, Daniel Schur and Daughter, Melody Schur all of Tullahoma, Tenn. Grandchildren; Eli Schur, Ben Schur, Jack Windley, Sam Windley, William Windley, Brothers, Mark Ward of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Dale Shelton, Columbia, Tenn., Friends; Sunday Perkins, Winchester, Tenn., Gary Driver, and Jay Sayarath both of Tullahoma, Tenn.
