CHARLES WILLIAM "BUB" CATES, SR., age 89, of Cowan, Tenn., departed this life on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Erlanger Health Systems in Chattanooga, Tenn., following an extended illness.  Mr. Cates was born in Winchester, Tenn., to the late John Martin Cates and Odessa Pittman Cates,  on May 16, 1929.  He was a member of the Cowan Church of the Nazarene.  Mr. Cates was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War.  He loved gardening when he was able. Most of all he loved attending church and reading and studying his Bible.

Mr. Cates is survived by his son, Charles Cates, Jr. and wife, Shelia, brother, Kenneth Cates and wife, Mary, granddaughter, Amanda Cates, all of Cowan. A close friend, David McBee and his Church family.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 13 at the Cowan Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Bill Welch and Bro. John Butler, officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:00 on Saturday.
