Dr. John Leslie Tubb, age 89, born Aug. 2, 1920, passed away on Oct. 23, 2009 at Southern Manor Assisted Living Center in Winchester. Dr. Tubb graduated from Central High School, Winchester, TN in 1938. Tennessee Polytechnical Institute (TPI) (agriculture) in 1943, and the Ohio State University School of Dentistry in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He also attended Texas A&M. Following his graduation from dental school he worked for the Veterans Administration and was in private practice in Memphis. He served as a dentist in the army during the Korean Conflict. He opened his practice in Winchester in 1953 and was in practice until 1995 when he sold his practice to Dr. Rick Courtney. While at TPI, Dr. Tubb met the love of his life, Venice, who was also a student. They married on March 16, 1945. She passed away on May 7, 2004. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Winchester, Sunday School teacher, and the chairman of the yard committee for over twenty years. He was a Member of the 4th District Dental Society, past president of the Winchester Lions Club, helped organize the Huntland Lions Club, enjoyed golfing with three aces, working in the yard, ballroom dancing and traveling with Venice, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and becoming known as "Pap" to his family.
Dr. Tubb was preceded in death by his wife, Venice Smith Tubb, Mother and Father, Ruby W. and John B. Tubb, Brother, Jack W. Tubb, infant son, John Alan Tubb.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Kim) Tubb of Stevenson, AL. Daughter, Ann (Buddy) Miller of Murfreesboro, TN. Grandchildren; Robert (Mariah) Tubb of Estill Springs, TN, John (Vanessa) Tubb of Winchester, Leslie Miller of Portland, OR and Bradford Miller of Murfreesboro, TN. Great-Grandchildren, Alan Tubb, Caleb Tubb and Katelynn Holder. Sister, Sara T. King, of Boulder, CO, Special Nieces, Arie Tubb (Mike) Motschman, Marietta, GA and Lisa Tubb (Bruce) Reid of Murfreesboro, TN, Special Sister-in-law, Mary Ruth (Everett) Grant of Winchester and a very special friend, Mary Nunley of Winchester, TN.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Southern Manor Assisted Living Center for all of the love and care they have given him since he became a resident in 2005.
Services for Dr. Tubb will be at 1:00 PM Monday at Winchester First Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Williams officiating. Visitiation with the family will be from 11:00 A.M. until service time Monday. Interment will be in the Winchester Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers are his grandsons, and Bill Webb, Mike Motschman and Bruce Reid.
